Rashida Jones

Rashida Jones was born Los Angeles, California to Quincy Jones, a media producer and mogul, and Peggy Lipton, Rashida is the younger sister of actress Peggy Lipton and Quincy Jones. Her older sister is Kidada Jones, as well as five half-siblings inherited from the relationships of her father's previous relationships. Her father is African-American and her mother Ashkenazi Jewish (a descendant from emigrants from Russia and Latvia). Rashida was born into Reform Judaism. She was raised in Bel Air, Los Angeles, California. Jones has made statements about her multi-racial parentage, "It was the 1970s and it's still not acceptable for them to be in a relationship." Jones first professional acting experience was in The Last Don (1997) the mini-series based on Mario Puzo's novel. Rashida was also a Harvard University graduate in 1997. Went to the Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, California. She was named the Most Likely to succeed. Arabic (O+O'UO O(c)) is her nickname. It is a reference to "Major" mature, adult and wise. Kidada Jones was her sister's ring bearer and was a vocalist for an Tupac Shakur tribute track. Kidada and Rashida's brother Quincy Jones III composed the song. Quincy Jones III, their father, also appeared during the introduction, reciting Shakur's lyrics "Starry Night". The poem is the source of the title of the song. Rashida is an African-American, and has lesser English, Scottish, or Welsh ancestral ancestry than his mother (some of his African ancestral ancestors were from the Tikar tribe of Cameroon). Rashida's mother is Ashkenazi Jewish (of Russian Jewish and Latvian Jewish descent). Her maternal grandparents, who were both of South Carolina, and Mississippi, were the paternal grandparents of her father. Her maternal grandfather was born to New Yorkers and her maternal grandmother was from Eastern European Jewish heritage. Since the end of 2009, she has appeared in three characters under the name "Karen" on classic cult TV comedies (Freaks and Geeks (1999), Stella (2005) and The Office (2005)).
