Paula Patton

Paula Patton is the daughter of Joyce (Vanraden) Patton and Charles Patton. Her father is African-American, and her mother is caucasian and is of German, English and Dutch ancestry. Her family lived directly next to the 20th Century Fox lot as she grew up and she was an avid enthusiast of films from the beginning of her life. Her mom was a teacher and her father was an attorney. Paula admits that she used to escape from her mother by pretending to be a different person as an infant. It's not too surprising to learn that she was a part of Hamilton Magnet Arts High School's plays for high school students. Her favorite character was that of "Abigail" in "The Crucible". However, she went on to learn film at the University of Southern California in an summer program. She was awarded a three-month project to make documentary films for PBS. Then she was employed as a production assistant for documentaries on TV and Howie Mandel's talk show. Her career progressed to producing documentary segments for Medical Diaries (2000) airing on Discovery Health Channel. Paula admits she is happy with her work, but she has a longing to be a performer. She was almost instantly successful and was featured in major roles in Hitch (2005), Idlewild (2006) as well as the lead female role in Deja Vu (2006) opposite Denzel.
